Ever wonder what your true design style might be? Are you contemporary, traditional or transitional? For most, this is a hard question to determine. With so much out in the retail world it can be very overwhelming to try and find something that fits you and your home. But today, you are in luck! By following these simple steps, you can easily learn your true design style in a matter of minutes. First, grab a pile of old magazines and rip out anything and everything that catches your eye, regardless of what it might be. Once you have a good number of pages gathered, get a large piece of paper or poster board and begin gluing the pages to the board in no particular order. After you've completed this, take a look at your board. What colors do you see? If you see warm, deep colors like reds, browns and golds, stick with a warm color palette. If you see cool, calming colors such as blues, greens and creams, then go that route. Next, take a look at the types of things you chose for your board. Do the items have a lot of smooth, clean, simple lines? Or, are they more detailed and busy? If they are simple and smooth, you most likely are drawn to a more contemporary style. Now you may be in between, which would make you transitional in style. However, if the images are highly detailed and intricate, you are definitely traditional. Also, look at any scenery you may have chosen. If there are multiple water and beach photos, you may enjoy a tropical flair to your home. Any Hollywood/Rodeo Drive looks? You might want to try a modern, city style or an old Hollywood glamour look. Are there lots of outdoor photos? Maybe try an Old World, organic flavor with lots of natural elements incorporated into the home. The possibilities are endless, but creating a mood board, no matter what the project, always inspires even the best designers on which direction to take each job. Finding your design style is like finding the perfect outfit; once you find it, you feel confident, stylish and ready to take the design world by storm.
